The product contains 2.16% diclofenac sodium and is intended for topical use. The anti-inflammatory effect of Voltaren Gel is comparable to oral NSAIDs such as aspirin, ibuprofen, and naproxen. Voltaren Gel is applied directly to the skin.
Voltaren Emulgel is indicated for the relief of symptoms of osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, juvenile rheumatoid arthritis, ankylosing spondylitis, and ankylosing spondylitis, as well as for the reduction of pain, inflammation, and stiffness associated with inflammation and pain in the arthritic condition. Main EffectsThe following benefits and limitations of the clinical studies and the therapeutic guidelines for Voltaren AT were observed in the patients with the osteoarthritis of the foot. The lowest dose of Voltaren AT was reported in one study in 1279 patients. In another study, a low dosage of Voltaren AT for the treatment of osteoarthritis of the foot was suggested in the third trimester of pregnancy. The current clinical practice is to prescribe a higher dosage than suggested in the clinical trials of Voltaren AT. The effects of higher doses of Voltaren AT have not been evaluated for osteoarthritis. A higher dosage may be indicated for patients with more severe osteoarthritis of the foot. An open label, three-way crossover study was conducted with the Voltaren AT in 11 healthy volunteers (11-19 years old). All the patients were on a treatment for osteoarthritis of the foot. The study subjects were placed in a double blind manner. Before they could be treated with Voltaren AT they were randomly assigned to receive Voltaren AT 100 mg, 200 mg or 400 mg. Voltaren AT was given for 3 days in both the 400 mg group and the 100 mg group. A high dosage of Voltaren AT was given in both the 400 mg group and the 100 mg group. The subjects in the 400 mg group were more sensitive to the effect of Voltaren AT compared to the other groups. In both groups the mean change in the change in the WOMac physical activity index was more in the 200 mg group compared to the other groups.
